William Francis Clynes, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, June 12, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born to James and Josephine Clynes on January 28, 1927 in New Britain, Connecticut. He was an outstanding baseball player and honor student at New Britain High School. In 2002, he was inducted into the New Britain Sports Hall-of-Fame. Bill joined the Navy and served our country in World War II and the Korean War. Upon return from the Navy, he signed with the Boston Red Sox organization. He continued his education and received his Masters of Education from Hillyer College in Hartford, Connecticut.
He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Beckius in 1949. They moved to Old Saybrook, Connecticut, where he began his teaching career at Old Saybrook High School, as well as coaching the baseball team. In June 1951, Bill was called back into the military to serve in the Korean War for 18 months. He then returned to Old Saybrook to continue teaching and to raise a family. Bill also served the community as a Police Commissioner in Old Saybrook. He advanced his career and ultimately became a Consultant for the Connecticut State Department of Education. He retired from the State Department in 1982 and moved to South Pasadena, Florida. Bill continued in the field of education as a Consultant for MMP USA, providing business television programs for universities throughout the country. He and Marge loved traveling and enjoyed many trips with their family. Bill especially loved golfing every week with his friends. In 2012 they moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl to be closer to family. His greatest joy was spending time with friends, family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marge. Daughter - Sharyn Nichols and her husband, Chris Granddaughter - Danielle Nichols and her husband, Landon Ganstrom and his daughters, Lilli and Luna Grandson - Kyle Nichols Daughter - Debbra Rand and her husband, Steven Grandson - Steven Rand Jr. and his wife, Tara and Great-Grandchildren, Alexis, Ethan, and Summer Grandson - Justin Rand Grandson - Tyler Rand and his fiancée, Caroline Fiorentino Daughter - Marjie-jean Blanton Granddaughter - Emily Blanton and her predeceased father, Jay Blanton Son - Thomas Clynes and his wife, Nora Grandson - Justin Grandson - Christopher and fiancée, Kaila Andrews, and Great-Granddaughter, Caroline Grandson - Andrew Granddaughter - Rachael Grandson - John Granddaughter - Olivia Grandson - Matthew Bill is also survived by his brother, James Clynes and wife, Rhoda of East Hampton, Connecticut; Nephew, Jim Clynes and niece, Nancy Ninesling, and nephew, David McCarthy, and predeceased sister-in-law Jacqueline McCarthy.
